At least 11 shipyard workers in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh were killed during a test session by a heavy-duty crane that collapsed, the state police said.
The 75 ton crane was recently purchased and installed at the Hindustan Shipyard Limited shipyards. It collapsed while workers were investigating the maximum exposure limit that it could in principle bear, according to the Visakhapatnam City Police Commissioner, where the shipyard is located, RK Meena
to the NDTV network.
The staff “tested the load capacity of the crane when the part of the base and the upper cabin were separated, which resulted in the crane collapsing,” said Vinay Chand responsible for the V district.
“There were ten people in the cabin, including engineers and permanent shipyard workers. They all died when the cabin crashed along with another unidentified person,” he added to the Indian Express.
