BELGRADE, Sep 22 (DPA / EP) –
At least 108 people have been injured by earthquakes that shake the capital and the coast of Albania, according to the news portal 'shqiptarja'.
The Ministry of Health had previously specified that around 68 people had been injured by these earthquakes, 21 of which had to receive hospital treatment.
The strongest earthquake was recorded shortly after 4 pm (local time). Its epicenter was not far from Cabo de Rodón, about 60 kilometers northwest of the capital, Tirana, as confirmed by the Ministry of Defense, which explained that the magnitude of this earthquake, 5.8, has been the most strong registered in the Balkan country in decades.
The USGeological Survey (USGS) has calculated that the magnitude is 5.6. After this earthquake there have been three others with magnitudes of 5.1, 4.7 and 4.8. The last replica has occurred shortly after midnight.
The local Tirana Administration has indicated that emergency response teams have been deployed throughout the city to help citizens. The images that several users have shared through social networks show the damage that this earthquake has caused in the buildings of the capital.
The Minister of Health, Ogerta Manastirliu, has posted photos of her visit to a traumatology clinic in Durres on the Twiiter social network. On the other hand, Prime Minister Edi Rama has canceled his trip to attend the UN General Assembly in New York, according to the state news agency.
The earthquake could be felt in Montenegro and North Macedonia, as reported by both countries.
