AstraZeneca suspends its Covid-19 vaccine study

AstraZeneca has decided to discontinue its trial of the Covid-19 vaccine because of a “potentially unexplained illness” of one of its participants in what the company has termed “routine”.

“As part of the ongoing global randomized controlled trials of the Oxford coronavirus vaccine, our standard screening process has suspended vaccination to allow verification of safety data,” the company said in a statement.

“It is a routine action to be taken if any of the studies has a potentially unexplained disease to ensure that the integrity of the studies is maintained,” added AstraZeneca, as reported by the US press.

The drug company added that in large studies “diseases occur randomly” but these conditions “need to be independently verified in order to carefully review (the data)”.
