Assange brings new arguments against his extradition to the US

WikiLeaks portal founder Julian Assange renewed his arguments against his extradition to the United States on Monday in a new hearing in the United Kingdom’s central criminal court known as the Old Bailey.

The 49-year-old Assange, through his partner and lawyer Stella Moris, submitted a petition from the RSF group (Reporters Without Borders) with the support of 800,000 signatures.

The petition warns that Assange could be “sentenced to up to 175 years in prison” on “charges of publishing and providing information of public interest to journalists”.

“The US and UK governments need to close this political case before services to freedom of the press are further compromised,” added Rebecca Vincent, RSF director of international campaigns.
