president Andrés Manuel López Obrador confirmed the death of the Yucatec singer-songwriter this morning Armando Manzanero this Monday, December 28th. The composer was 86 years old and had been hospitalized for two weeks for COVID-19.

For his part, journalist Javier Poza wrote on Twitter at 7:15 a.m.:

“Last minute! The teacher #ArmandoManzanero died at the age of 85 after fighting COVID-19. One of the most important composers in Mexico is leaving.”

On Sunday, Armando Manzanero’s family reported his recovery, which appeared favorable, and his extubation was expected in the next few days.

“His calm state is also lower, which prepares him to extubate him in the next few days if his conditions allow,” they reported on social networks.
