The Argentine Ministry of Health has confirmed 258 new cases of Covid-19 this Sunday, the highest number of infections since the pandemic started in the South American country. This brings the total number of positive cases to 6,034, while the number of deaths has increased to 305.
Health officials have reported five new deaths, all from people over 50 years of age, registered in the jurisdiction of Buenos Aires, the region that remains the most affected by the pandemic in the country.
This new number exceeds the number registered on Friday, 240, the highest increase in daily infections in Argentina by then.
On Friday, Argentine President Alberto Fernández extended the isolation measures and mandatory quarantine in the city and in the province of Buenos Aires from March 20 to May 24, although the rest of The Regions will operate in a new phase of de-escalation.
For its part, the Ministry of Transport has asked citizens to use public transport as little as possible and, in this case, to always observe distance and safety measures.
