The Argentine Ministry of Health registered 10,933 new positive results this Wednesday for a total of 439,172 accumulated cases. while the death toll rose to 9,118 after 147 more deaths were confirmed on the final day.
Given this situation, in which the pandemic has recovered over the past few weeks, while some of the restrictions previously imposed have been relaxed, Argentine President Alberto Fernández has warned that he will not allow the “situation to be a point of collapse” after a significant increase in the occupancy of intensive care beds was noted.
“For me the most important thing is that people have the opportunity to be treated in a hospital,” he said during a dialogue for the television channel Todo Noticias, in which he also said that he does not rule out the “red button” press and return to containment measures at the beginning of the health crisis.
Fernández has insisted that Argentina is in a “high risk” situation and regretted the “sense of détente” that has been felt in part of the country since the economic reopening measures began.
While the situation in Buenos Aires remains worrying, the province and city have the highest number of cases and deaths in the country. In other regions such as Córdoba, Jujuy or Santa Fé, the number of infections has increased significantly in the last few days.
