Argentina adds 16,350 cases of COVID-19 and expects to approve the project to postpone elections this week

The Argentine Ministry of Health reported 16,350 new cases of coronavirus this Sunday, with 3,307,285 infections already detected in the country. The Chamber of Deputies expects to approve the proposed project this week while the epidemiological situation worsens and the elections are delayed.

In the past 24 hours, health officials have also recorded 270 deaths from the disease, which has killed 70,522 people since the pandemic broke out.

In addition, the latest balance of the health portfolio released this Sunday shows that 2,952,599 patients have been recovered from COVID-19 while another 284,164 cases are still active.

On the other hand, there are 5,538 beds in intensive care units occupied, which corresponds to 69.3 percent at the national level and 75.4 percent in the greater Buenos Aires area.

As part of the Argentine coronavirus vaccination strategy, 9,989,760 vaccinations have already been carried out, of which 1,947,021 are second doses.

As a result of the pandemic, the ruling party has presented an initiative in Congress that it intends to approve this week and that aims to postpone the primary and parliamentary elections by a month.

To this end, according to Télam, the Front of All will convene a special meeting this Wednesday.
