The Institute for Studies and Development for Peace (Indepaz) has denounced the murder of José Ignacio Loaiza Henao, a former fighter of the now defunct guerrilla group of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), with whom there are already 26 ex-guerrillas killed until 2021 ; 275 since the peace accords were signed in 2016.
Loaiza was assigned to the Territorial Training and Rehabilitation Area (ETCR) of La Elvira, Buenos Aires municipality, Cauca department, and was shot dead on May 21. He died on May 28th in San José de Popayán Hospital.
Loaiza was part of the National Guard Department and the National Union of Security and Protection Workers, Memoria Viva, Indepaz said. “This man was currently the escort of Camila Cienfuegos, who is also a signatory to the agreement and a member of the Comunes party,” added the guerrilla’s political heir, Indepaz.
Local Human Rights Councilor Luis Enríquez said: “We are waiting for the investigation to develop because it is very confusing.” “He was on the Manuel Cepeda Vargas city front,” he said.
This death comes amid an escalation of social tensions and protests after more than a month of indefinite general strikes against the government of President Iván Duque. Only on this Friday four people were killed in the protests and a total of 59 deaths would be mourned.
