President Andrés Manuel López Obrador and his wife Beatriz Gutiérrez Müeller started the registration procedures with the Mexican Institute for Industrial Property (IMPI) Your name and acronyms as a trademark and prevent third parties from benefiting from them.

According to the newspaper El Universal, the president and his wife started the relevant proceedings between April and July last year. Almost 17,000 pesos were paid for them to study these inquiries.

The newspaper reports that file 2352324 states that the Andrés Manuel López Obrador brand is only allowed to be used by the federal government in the fields of education, entertainment services, and sporting and cultural activities.

Another file seeks to protect the President’s name for marketing in the areas of advertising, corporate governance, corporate administration and office work.

In May last year, the Minister of Economic Affairs Graciela Márquez Colín and the head of IMPI, Juan Lozano Tovar, stated that there were people who wanted to own the AMLO brand, but this was not granted because there were laws preventing it.

Beatriz Gutiérrez Müller is also attempting to register her name on files 2352319 and 2352328 in the fields of advertising, corporate governance, office work, as well as education, entertainment services, sports and cultural activities.
