Alcatraz Island, home to one of the world’s most famous prison complexes, will reopen on Monday after being closed for five months due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The National Park Service reported in a statement that “Alcatraz Island will resume ferry operations from August 17,” although capacity and access to the outside areas of the prison complex are limited.

“In the interests of public health, the interior of the island’s buildings will remain closed, there will be no catering services on the ferry, and food consumption will be prohibited anywhere on the island,” he said.
