Al Fata and Hamas agree to hold elections within a maximum of six months

Al Fata and the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) have agreed to organize parliamentary elections in the Palestinian territories within a maximum of six months within the framework of contacts that have been made in Turkey over the past few days to cope with the reconciliation process.

Al Fata Central Committee Secretary Yibril Rayub has elaborated that the groups have agreed that these elections will be in accordance with a proportional representation system, as reported by the Palestinian news agency WAFA.

“We are waiting for the invitation from the President (of the Palestinian Authority), Mahmoud Abbas, to approve the principles and put the mechanisms in place, starting with the issuing of a presidential decree,” he said in statements made on Palestinian television.
