The jihadist group Islamic State in Central Africa (ISCA) has captured the Mozambican city of Mocimboa da Praia in Cabo Delgado (north) after several days of fighting with the army that eventually withdrew.
ISCA has posted photos on social networks and propaganda channels showing guns looted by lootings and corpses scattered in the port city after the clashes, according to SITE Intelligence Group, a body specializing in surveillance of terrorist groups.
Sources quoted by the Mozambican news portal Zitamar began the jihadist offensive on the night of August 5th. After that, they managed to take a large part of the city, although the port was defended by Navy riflemen until Tuesday.
Eventually, the military had to withdraw after the ammunition ran out, despite the air support from helicopters from the security company Dyck Advisory Group (DAG), which has been involved in fighting against jihadists in recent months.
