A total of 11,806 people have died of coronavirus in Africa, where the number of cases is already 463,306. This emerges from this Sunday’s recent review, presented by the continent’s disease control centers, and the overall positive 222,304 recoveries.
The African CDC estimates that the continent crossed this threshold just four days after crossing the 400,000 contagion threshold on Wednesday.
The region most affected by the number of cases is southern Africa, which already borders 200,000 infections (194,870 in total), the vast majority of which are in South Africa with 187,977 cases and 3,027 deaths, followed by Zambia (1,632 cases, 30 dead) and Malawi (1,613 cases, another 17 dead).
It should be noted that South Africa confirmed more than 10,000 new cases of coronavirus this Sunday. It is the first time that the country has exceeded this threshold since the lethal epidemic began.
