The Saudi Princess Basma Saud bint Saud and her daughter Suhud have been in custody since March 2019, as the human rights organization ALQST confirmed on their Twitter account on Saturday.
57-year-old Basma is the youngest daughter of the late monarch Saud bin Abdulaziz al Saud and the niece of King Salman. According to the group, the princess and her daughter were arrested while trying to travel to Switzerland to receive medical care for Basma.
The Saudi princess was held in Al-Hair prison near Riyadh, known for holding many political prisoners.
Basma was believed to be an advocate of women’s rights in the country, the organization said before denouncing that “at no point in her detention have any charges been brought against her.”
The group also accuses the Saudi authorities of denying the princess the medical treatment she needs. His illness was never disclosed.
