August 10, 2020

Alexander Lukashenko has achieved a sixth term by winning the presidential elections held in Belarus on Sunday with 80.23 percent of the vote, the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) reported on Monday.

“Alexander Lukashenko collected 80.23 percent of the vote,” announced KEK President Lidia Ermolina at a press conference in which the Russian news agency Sputnik also took part.

The official results would thus confirm the results achieved at the end, which earned the current president more than 81 percent of the vote, well ahead of the main candidate of the Belarusian opposition, Svetlana Tijanovskaya, with 8 percent.
