According to the annual balance sheet published by the Institute for Peace Studies (Indepaz), Colombia recorded a total of 92 massacres, murdered 168 social leaders and 48 peace agreement signatories in 2021.
According to the report “Violence Numbers in the Regions 2021”, which was published between January 1st and April 24th.
In addition, of the 168 social leaders murdered, 26 were women. They were murdered in 108 communities with 25 departments. Among the signatories of the peace agreement, four of the women killed in 39 municipalities with 15 departments were women.
In the massacres, Cauca and Antioquia appear as the departments with the most events of this type with 14 each, while Antioquia is the most casualty with 52.
Cauca was the department that recorded most of the murders of social leaders, according to the work that mentions the names of Sandra Liliana Peña, Wilson López or Sebastián Jacanamijoy. After Cauca are Antioquia, Magdalena, Nariño and Chocó.
The department of Cauca is again at the forefront of the signatories murdered by the department in 2021, followed by Caquetá and Nariño.
