Abbas warns that if the West Bank is annexed, he will void all agreements with Israel and the United States

May 5, 2020

The President of the Palestinian Authority, Mahmoud Abbas, has repeated his warning to cancel all agreements with Israel and the United States if parts of the West Bank are annexed, as the Israeli government is pondering the matter.

“We have informed all international parties that if Israel takes this step, we will be released from all commitments, agreements and arrangements with Israel and the US government,” he said, according to the Palestinian News Agency WAFA.

He has therefore called on the United Nations and the international community to take measures to “prevent the Israeli government from exploiting the (coronavirus) pandemic to further its plans to annex parts of the Palestinian territory occupied in 1967”.

Abbas stressed that this would be “a violation of the rights of the Palestinian people” and “a serious violation of international law that would destroy any opportunity to achieve the two-state solution and a just and lasting peace and security”.
