A woman died and a man was injured this Thursday when actor Alec Baldwin was shot with a prop holster on the set of a film in the US state of New Mexico.
State authorities have confirmed that the 68-year-old producer was also the one who fired the gun on the set of the western film “Rust” in an incident that occurred around 1:50 pm local time at the Bonanza Creek ranch the US broadcaster CNN.
A Baldwin spokeswoman has indicated that the shooting occurred accidentally when the propeller gun failed, NPR reports.
Rescue workers transferred the woman to the University of New Mexico hospital after the shooting, even though her death was declared there. The 42-year-old cameraman Halyn Hutchins was identified as the victim.
On the other hand, director Joel Souza, 48, who was transferred to the Saint Vicente Regional Medical Center, was injured in the accident.
Authorities said the investigation is still ongoing and no charges have been brought. Meanwhile, production of the film, directed by Souza and with Baldwin as producer and actor, has ceased.
