The judge orders the Department of Justice to provide information on Mueller's investigation
MADRID, Oct. 26 (EUROPE PRESS) –
US District Judge Beryl Howell has determined Friday that the Democracy-led investigation into the 'impeachment' against the president of the country, Donald Trump, is legal and has ordered his Administration to deliver an unwritten copy of the report Special Prosecutor Robert Mueller on Russian interference in the 2016 elections.
The ruling of the judge is a victory for the Democrats and is a blow to the US president, who has repeatedly stated that the political trial investigation being conducted by the House of Representatives of the country, controlled by the Democrats, It is not valid as there has been no formal vote to authorize the investigation.
Howell has ruled that the US Congress is conducting a legal investigation of political trial and has criticized the efforts of the Department of Justice and Republican Doug Collins to point out that Democrats had not reached the legal threshold.
“Blocking access to evidence collected by a grand jury for a political trial investigation … undermines the ability of the House of Representatives to carry out its constitutional responsibility with due diligence,” Howell said.
The Department of Justice argued that the information written in Mueller's report could not be disclosed because it contained material from the grand jury procedures that should be kept secret. However, the judge has ruled that the Department of Justice must deliver these documents to the House of Representatives before October 30.
“The Department of Justice is wrong,” Howell said, adding that the need to disclose documents “is greater than the need to keep them secret.”
For its part, the president of the House of Representatives, Democrat Nancy Pelosi, has applauded the judge's ruling and described it as a blow to Trump's attempt to “impose himself on the law.”
“Today's ruling … is another blow to President Trump's attempt to impose himself on the law,” Pelosi said in a statement. “This ruling affirms the authority of Congress to expose the truth to Americans,” he said.
Likewise, Pelosi stressed that “the House of Representatives will continue to solemnly honor its responsibility to follow the facts and discover the truth.” “The president will be held accountable, because nobody is above the law,” he stressed.
