MADRID, Oct. 10 (EUROPE PRESS) –
Counterterrorism analyst of the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) of the United States Henry Kyle Frese has been arrested on Wednesday for allegedly leaking classified information about a third-country weapons system to two journalists in 2018 and 2019.
The US Department of Justice has indicated that the 30-year-old suspect would have given information to a journalist with whom he would have had a romantic relationship, which would have written at least eight news on five Intelligence reports that leaked by Frese himself.
“Frece has been caught delivering compromised national security information for his own benefit,” said Deputy Attorney General John Demers, according to information from the CNBC television network.
Judicial documents indicate that Frese accessed classified material and documents that, in some cases, were not related to his work.
“Filtering without authorization of classified information can cause serious damage to the national security of the United States,” warned the Department of Justice.
A week after Frese allegedly accessed one of the Intelligence reports in question, the journalist asked the analyst in a direct message from the Twitter social network if he would talk to a second reporter.
Frese could face a penalty of up to ten years in prison if he is guilty of both charges of intentionally transmitting classified information.
