A study condemns the construction of 380 concentration camps in China’s Xinjiang region since 2017

A study by the Australian Strategic Policy Institute (ASPI) has shown that the Chinese government has built 380 concentration camps in the Xinjiang region in the west of the country since 2017. .

The think tank’s conclusions thus contradict the arguments of the Chinese authorities who claim they have scaled back mass internment measures in the region.

Using satellite imagery, the study has mapped the area and found a long network of fields that have been established over the past three years, including 14 other facilities that are still under construction.

China has interned nearly a million Uyghurs, Kazakhs, members of the Hui ethnic group and other predominantly Muslim minorities since 2016, NGOs, human rights groups and survivors reported.
