The Kamchatka Emergency Service reported on Tuesday that a plane with 28 people on board disappeared on this Russian peninsula in the east of the country.
“An Antonov An-26 aircraft flying from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky City to Palana did not respond to the air traffic controllers at the scheduled time,” a spokesman for the regional emergency service told Sputnik.
“According to preliminary information, there are 21 passengers on board the aircraft, including a child, and six crew members,” he emphasized.
A team from the Russian Emergency Ministry has also started a search and rescue operation with the help of two helicopters and an airplane.
A source for the regional airline Vityaz Aero told the Russian agency that “there is no evidence that the plane crashed”.
