A House committee quotes the White House to give documents about Trump’s call with Zelenski

October 5, 2019

The president of the Supervisory Committee of the House of Representatives of the United States, Elijah Cummings, has summoned the White House on Friday to obtain documents related to his investigation of the impeachment process against the American president, Donald Trump.

Cummings, who has issued the subpoena after consulting with the chairmen of the Intelligence and Foreign Affairs committees of Congress – Adam Schiff and Eliot Engel, respectively – has claimed that after the previous requests ended unanswered, now They have been forced to cite the White House.

“We deeply regret that President Trump has put us and the nation in this position, but his actions have left us no choice but to issue this citation,” the three chairmen of the committees stressed on Friday in a letter addressed to the chief of the White House acting cabinet, Mick Mulvaney.

Hours before, when asked about whether the White House will collaborate with the House of Representatives in the investigations to explore the 'impeachment', Trump has suggested that he might not do so. “I don't know, it depends on the lawyers and I know that the lawyers think they haven't seen anything so unfair,” he replied.

The House Democrats have also asked the Vice President, Mike Pence, on Friday to deliver documents related to a meeting he had with the Ukrainian president, Volodimir Zelenski, and the call between Zelenski and Trump in which the US president would have asked his counterpart who pressured the Prosecutor to investigate the son of former Vice President Joe Biden. Pence would have until October 15 to deliver these documents.

The telephone conversation, which occurred on July 25, has become the engine of an eventual 'impeachment' that could end Trump's presidency in the final stretch of his first term.

Trump has insisted that both he and the Republican Party are being treated “unfairly.” “This is the biggest witch hunt in the history of our country,” he denounced, although he has predicted that he will defeat it as he did with the already known as Mueller report on his alleged collusion with Russia in the 2016 presidential elections: ” That came out of 10, it came out perfect. ”
