A French army officer was charged with allegedly delivering classified information to Russia

French Defense Minister Florence Parly reported this Sunday that the government had initiated legal proceedings against a French army officer who is currently in custody for allegedly delivering classified information to Russia.

“I can only confirm that a senior official is being tried for a security breach,” Parly told Europe 1, before French chain sources looked into the circumstances.

According to Europa 1, the military in question is believed to be a lieutenant colonel in his fifties who “transmitted very sensitive documents or information to Russia, a country whose language is said to be fluent”.
