A former ally of Condé becomes the first opposition candidate for the October presidential election in Guinea

August 2, 2020

Ousmane Kaba, a former ally of Guinea’s President Alpha Condé, is the first opposition candidate for the October 18 presidential election, in which the president could run for a third term.

Kaba has accepted the Democratic Party for Hope (PADES) nomination and argued that “he will directly reject the regime.” “The pessimists who believe that the PADES will only give credibility to previously lost elections tell them they are wrong,” he said.

He said that the African country “is going through a critical phase characterized by recurrent political crises, endemic economic crises and social crises, creating instability and weakening the economy and driving millions of people into poverty”.

The opponent defended that “the country’s economic and socio-political situation requires thorough reflection and without complacency in order to identify strategies and measures that enable a just and amicable solution,” reports the news portal Guinee News.
