A dozen killed in an attack in the Ivory Coast near the Burkina Faso border

A dozen people died this Thursday in an attack on a military post in the north of Ivory Coast near the Burkina Faso border, according to the Ivorian Ministry of Defense’s balance sheet. This would be the first terrorist action in the country since 2016.

The target of the attack was, according to the official statement by General Lassina Doumbia, a mixed post of the army and gendarmerie in Kafolo near the Ivory Coast border with Burkina Faso. The state news agency AIP had previously reported eleven deaths and two missing.

According to the balance offered by the defense, in addition to the dozen dead, there are also six wounded while one of the attackers was killed. The attack, which was carried out by “unidentified armed persons”, took place around 3:00 am

In his statement, the chief of staff pointed out that both President Alassane Ouattara and the government “bowed to the memory of the fallen soldiers in the field of honor” and said that “ongoing investigations are under way” the way the circumstances and the ultimate balance of this attack, “said the local KOACI media.
