A court dictates house arrest against Diego Cadena, former lawyer for former Colombian President Álvaro Uribe

The 35th Guarantees Control Court in Bogotá this Thursday ordered Diego Cadena, former lawyer for former President of Colombia Álvaro Uribe, to be placed under house arrest as part of the investigation into bribery and procedural fraud that had been launched against him.

The case is related to the Colombian Supreme Court (CSJ) investigation into Uribe, who was also placed under house arrest earlier this week for alleged procedural fraud and bribery of witnesses.

In particular, Cadena is being investigated for visits to ex-paramilitaries allegedly persuading her to speak for Uribe at the CSJ, a management that involved payments and alleged promises of gifts.

The court assumes that house arrest would prevent actions against the administration of justice, as reported by the Colombian newspaper “El Espectador”.
