The Brazilian Supreme Court (TSJ) this Friday ordered the immediate dismissal of Rio de Janeiro’s Governor Wilson Witzel for alleged irregularities in purchases made during the coronavirus pandemic.
The measure, which will initially be in force for six months, took its lawyers by surprise, who denounced the way the TSJ acted and argued that once they know its contents, they will decide what steps to take are string G1.
Witzel and eight other people investigated for the irregularities, including his wife Helena, were denounced by the attorney general, according to this medium, although there would be no prison order against the governor.
According to the Brazilian media, the person who was arrested was already Pastor Everaldo, president of the Social Christian Party (PSC), to which Witzel belongs. The Federal Police received a total of 17 arrest warrants, eleven of which are temporary, and a further 72 as part of the investigation into the search and arrest.
