A 6.5 magnitude earthquake shakes Taiwan, causing tremors in the capital

A strong earthquake of preliminary magnitude 6.5, followed by an aftershock of 5.4, struck Taiwan this Sunday, causing strong tremors in the capital Taipei, where public transport was partially suspended with no sign of casualties.

The first earthquake was registered at 7:11 a.m. on the Spanish peninsula with an epicenter 22 kilometers from Yilan County in the east of the island and at a depth of 66.8 kilometers, according to the National Meteorological Office.

Witnesses from the DPA agency confirm the use of numerous ambulances in Taipei without providing details.
