A 6.2 magnitude earthquake recorded off the coast of Nicaragua

An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.2 on the open Richter scale shook the west coast of Nicaragua this Tuesday, but no information is yet available on victims or property damage.

The Nicaraguan Institute for Territorial Studies (Ineter) stated on its website that the earthquake was followed by a number of aftershocks, including at least two with magnitude greater than six on the Richter scale.

The Vice President of Nicaragua, Rosario Murillo, has urged the population to take precautionary measures and to pay attention to the media after the earthquake, as reported by the broadcaster Radio Nicaragua.
