ROME, Aug. 18 (DPA / EP) –
Italian coastguards have rescued 57 immigrants whose boat has been intercepted on the island of Lampione, near the Italian coast of Lampedusa.
The rescued were transferred to the island late this Saturday. Among them was a pregnant woman and a child suffering from an anxiety crisis, which received medical attention.
The majority of immigrants, if not all, could be of Tunisian nationality, according to sources from the ANSA agency.
Waiting to enter the island is around a hundred immigrants from the ship 'Open Arms', of the Spanish organization of the same name, which have been waiting for permission of the Italian authorities for almost 20 days.
