People keep asking me how they can be more happy and they hope to hear of a magic pill or old secret that will improve theirs humor. The truth is that the secret to happiness takes work. Psychologist and author Barbara Frederickson says we need a 3: 1 ratio of positive to negative experiences in order to thrive in life. And most of us are a long way from there.

Let’s start with what happiness is NOT first. The luck It is not a condition that you are born with or that you access with expensive cars or money bags. Happiness cannot be bought or earned through success, but luck can be chosen. Happiness can be a choice you make every day by creating happy habits. Over time, these habits mark new channels or pathways in your brain and make happiness an automatic process. Once you are happy, you notice the rewards: better health, more success, more wealth.

Research shows that happier people are more motivated, persistent, and outperform negative people. Happy people are providers of creative solutions, enjoy their work and achieve cheaper results. What is stopping you from being happier after reading this?

Here we leave you 5 actions that you can put into practice every day to have more happiness in your life:

1. Practice gratitude

Numerous studies show that gratitude helps your body, mind, and spirit. Keep a journal and identify three things to be thankful for each day. The reason for these things is the most effective way of putting gratitude into practice. Martin E.P. Seligman, known as one of the founding members of positive psychology, writes in his book Blooming If you practice this habit every day, you will be happier and less depressed in six months. Eventually, your brain will be trained to look for the beautiful things in life.

2. Use your strengths

One of the basic tenets of positive psychology is to focus on what works and builds from there. You may not be born with leadership skills, but teamwork is more suited to your strengths. Knowing this information will make you different from those who don’t. If you don’t know your strengths, visit the VIA Institute website and take their survey. It’s free, but the knowledge you acquire is priceless.

3. Meditate

Nothing can be achieved with a disturbed mind. Find at least 10 minutes of your day to yourself. Bill George, a leader in business and education, meditates every day. He says his most creative ideas come when he meditates. When you get rid of yesterday’s thoughts and tomorrow’s worries and focus only on the here and now, your stress will decrease and you will find peace of mind.

4. Be nice

That is very easy. Giving yourself the time to help someone, even if they are a stranger, is like giving yourself a gift. Studies suggest that the mere hesitation of thinking about an act of kindness can improve your mood. You can do small things like hold the door for someone or help them carry grocery bags. Friendliness doesn’t have to be a gift of money. Indeed, caring for someone is a much enriching act of kindness. In my book The slight edge I wrote that one of the most influential people in my life was my mentor. I was so pleased with your generosity that I returned the favor because I know how powerful an act of kindness can be.

5. Build strong relationships

Many people believe that entrepreneurs are lonely wolves who go their own way, but trust me, no one can do it alone. By that I mean that behind every successful person there are many people who help them and have helped them on their way. Christopher Kukk, psychologist and author of the book The merciful achiever, He says that anyone who believes that their personal success has nothing to do with others is lying. Are you wondering who helped me get where I am? How many positive relationships have helped me build a great business or career? Take the time to really thank these people. Whether they are co-workers, mentors, family members, or friends, every positive connection in your life acts as a catalyst to move you forward on your path to success.

Practice these five acts every day and I promise you that you will notice a whole world of positivity that opens up before you. Life is too short not to have your best life today.
