23 “vigilantes” die in an attack by “bandits” in northern Nigeria

At least 23 “vigilantes” died on Saturday in an attack by “bandits” in the Nigerian state of Zamfara in the north of the country, as the authorities of the African country confirmed on Monday.

State police spokesman Mohammed Shehu said in statements to Nigerian television channel Channels Television that the attack on Ruwan-Tofa village in the Maru region had been carried out, adding that he had left with several others injured among members of self-defense groups.

It has also indicated that the attackers broke into the city, provoking the reaction of the “volunteers” who were ambushed. The “bandits” also stole cattle heads before fleeing.

Shehu highlighted that the authorities launched a joint army and police operation on Sunday, which resulted in the rescue of six people kidnapped by the attackers in Ruwan-Tofa without deciding on the victims of the operation.
